We are looking for a Languages Manager for our reputable team of dedicated language specialists. These poly-talented linguists are experts in their domains and active in their respective language communities. This team owns all language-specific functionality on Heroku. The team is distributed around the world.
The role requires high emotional intelligence, balancing the negotiation between needs of our language communities and what we need to offer as a business. You’ll be adept at diplomatically making tradeoffs, but still know how to motivate people and help the team execute autonomously in a way that optimizes both the community’s and company’s interests. You’ll take a frank and sincere interest in each team member’s career.
You don’t need to be an expert in all of these languages, but you will need to work closely with product managers to build a roadmap that best supports all of these communities. Acute horizontal management skills are key, as this team is affected by and affects multiple facets of the Heroku platform.
Ideally, you will have experience managing teams of various sizes consisting of highly functioning individual contributors. You’ll have honed a skill set for working with people distributed around the world. You’ll be familiar with contemporary app development methodologies with an eye toward the progressive and a sensibility for backward compatibility. Platform operational experience and understanding is a plus.
